Reciprocal Helix William Hunter's extended exploration of the vessel produced celebrated works composed of astonishing contrary-wise spooling ribs. Hunter took a risk when he moved from that epitome of craft to a sort of reductia ad absurdum dissolution of the walls of the vessel. But the result was not absurd; it was a new way of envisioning form in newly constructed or deconstructed sense of space. Hunter's interpenetrating; almost knotted spirals function as an abstract of energy. This is the sort of daring open-ended, individual exploration rooted in craft and history which Pushkin lauds and which "Challenge VI" hoped to encourage.
