Free Vessel This piece, comprised of four elements, is about the deconstruction and transformation of the vessel. Free Vessel, by arranging space with a new integration of separate elements and energy that flows through each part, has no particular vantage point, no singular view, no central focus, leaving only the faint echoes of the vessel. In cutting the vessel apart, a new compounding of relationships and perspectives are possible. Negative space becomes more important and the interplay of space, light and mass brings a visual complexity out of pure form and adds new voices or implied narratives. The excitement of exploration has always driven my work, which then leads to refinement and growth within the series. I’m always trying to develop and work through a range of abstract concepts and motives with the pieces; creating motionless movement, trying to defy gravity, using complexity of line to engage the viewer, and encourage exploration and contemplation. I feel the piece speaks to nature’s energy and continual evolution.
